From a very old vineyard in la morra, Barbera d’Alba Giuli is named in memory of my great-grandfather’s brother: Giulio, shortened – in piedmontese dialect – to Giuli.

Strong, full-bodied and persistent: Barbera d’Alba Giuli lends itself well to ageing.

Grape varietal: 100% Barbera

Planting layout: 2.30 x 0.90 m

Altitude: 230 metres a.s.l.

Exposure: south

Vine training technique: guyot

Age of vines: 50 years

Yield per hectare: 55 quintals of grapes/ha

Soil: limestone – blue marlstone

Harvest: October

Vinification: traditional in temperature controlled tanks

Ageing: 18 months in French oak

Further ageing: 6 months in the bottle

Sensory characteristics: intense ruby red colour, dense, rich bouquet of red berries with subtle and mellow scents of wood. The palate is full, strong, soft and highly persistent. The right level of acidity matches well with the pronounced tannins. Needs ageing.
